Locals top junior tennis series

Two local tennis players, Alex Gromet and Teague Hamilton,

captured first-place in their respective divisions at the first All

Court Tennis Junior Challenger tennis series event of the year.

The divisions were open to both boys and girls.

12-and-under Division

Gromet and Fareed Ahmed of Irvine battled it out for first-place

in the division.

Each player won the same number of matches, but Gromet was able to

claim the top spot by winning 14 games, overall.

Ahmed, meanwhile, won 13 total games and finished in second-place.

Third-place went to Alison Azera and Alexandra Rieckhoff finished

in fourth-place.

12-and-under standings: 1. Alex Gromet; 2. Fareed Ahmed; 3. Alison

Azera; 4. Alexandra Rieckhoff.

10-and-under Division

Teague Hamilton rose to the top of the division standings by

winning every match he played.

Benito Romeo won five of his six matches to place second and

Taylor

Davidson came in third with a 4-2 record.

Beau Heussenstamm finished in fourth-place.

The next Challenger series tournament will be held Sunday, April

25.

In other city tennis news, the 47th annual city of Laguna Beach

Tennis Tournament will be played the weekends of May 15 to 16 and May 22 to 23.

Tournament action will take place in mens, , singles, doubles and

mixed, 3.5 through Open divisions.

Player entry forms currently are being taken and registration will

close on April 30.

Laguna still No. 2 in volleyball poll

The first three spots in the CIF-Southern Section Division II

boys’ volleyball poll remained status quo, with Laguna Beach coming

in at No. 2.

The Breakers are ranked one spot in front of Pacific Coast League

rival Corona del Mar, and trail, once again, top-ranked Valencia of

Valencia.

A third Pacific Coast League team, Northwood, was ranked fifth.
