Laguna falls to Trojans

Jumping out to an early lead was not enough for the Laguna Beach High

in its Tuesday Pacific Coast League baseball game at University.

The Breakers took a 3-1 lead before the Trojans stormed back to

claim a 16-4 victory, their third in league play.

The loss dropped Laguna to 1-5 in league action.

The Breakers scored three runs in the top of the first inning and

led, 3-1, heading into the second inning.

University, however, scored three more runs in the bottom of the

second to take a 4-3 lead.

Conley Sampson drew Laguna even at 4-4 when he hit a home run over

the fence in right-center field, but University came right back with

a four-run outburst in the bottom-half of the inning to forge an 8-4

lead.

Laguna’s offense tried to retaliate and did put the ball in play,

but could not muster any more runs.

The bottom fell out on the Breakers in the bottom of the sixth

where bloop hits, walks, errors lead to eight University runs to end

the game at 16-4.

Sampson led Laguna going three for three with two RBIs.

Garrett Rauch also had a pair of RBIs.

Laguna sent five pitchers to the mound.

In a previous Pacific Coast League outing, Laguna was blanked by

host Tesoro, 15-0.

Four Laguna pitchers could not contain a potent Titans offense,

although the teams were locked in a tight struggle through the first

three innings.

Tesoro scored five runs in the bottom of the third, and topped

that with a six-run effort in the fourth.

Laguna struggled at the plate and stranded runners at third base

with less than two outs in the first and third innings, while the

game was still close.

Jeff Bolar and Conley Sampson both had doubles for Laguna.

Tesoro scored 4 more runs to finish off Laguna 15-0.
