Angels soar past Marlins

Trey Gourdine ignited a five-run fifth inning rally with a double off
the center field fence, as the Angels went on to record a 10-4
victory over the Marlins in Majors Division play at Ocean View Little
League.
Gourdine was two for two and scored twice. Blake Skorich, Matt
Limones and Thomas Gross had clutch run-scoring hits to put the game
out of reach. Jacob Pascoe added a hit and made several defensive
stops for the Angels.
Ben Albert pitched three shutout innings, striking out nine.
For the Marlins, Derek Hintz pitched three innings, allowing one
run while striking out six. Brandon Holland tripled and scored two
runs for the Marlins.
In other Majors Division action:
Cubs 6, Indians 5
The Cubs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning,
then held off the Indians.
Sean Guite had an RBI double and Jordan Miller and Calvin Primich
each had RBI sacrifice ground outs in the inning.
In the third inning, the Cubs made it 6-0, the key hit being a
two-out, RBI single by Primich.
The Indians fought back by scoring three runs in the bottom of the
third with the help of a couple of Cub misplays to make it 6-3. The
Indians added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make it
6-5. The Cubs defense also shined, as centerfielder Jonathan Ashley
raced into right center to catch a line drive that was headed for the
wall in the second inning and in the fourth, second baseman Chad
Hackworth flagged what looked like a hit up the middle and got the
runner out a first.
Guite pitched all six innings for the Cubs, striking out eight and
getting key outs when he needed them. For the Cubs, Conroy and Guite
each had two hits, Jason Fernandez doubled and Wilkinson and Primich
each finished with three RBIs.
For the Indians, David Van Doornum and Lars Jensen each had two
hits.
Minor A Division
Giants 12, Yankees 5
Casey Hayes went three for four with four RBIs as the Giants won
their third game in a row. Adding to the Giants’ cause was Grant
Mayeaux with a three for three game that included a pair of doubles
and three runs scored, Austin Barlow, who went two for three with a
double and Jake Rubino with two hits and two RBIs.
Nathan Fairbanks led the Yankees offense with two hits and three
RBIs and Tim Larsen singled twice with two runs scored.
Rubino struck out seven without allowing a walk in four innings
and Hayes pitched the final two innings and recorded five strikeouts.
Minor B Division
A’s 9, Dodgers 6
The A’s defeated the Dodgers to earn their first win of the
season.
Tyler Hammock, David Feirstein and Dee Atwood shared the pitching
duties. Atwood struck out five of the Dodgers’ final six batters to
finish the game.
Feirstein led the way offensively with three hits and three RBIs
and Jake Poss had two RBIs.
Hammock and Josh Said each had two hits, Atwood and Jason Baxter
each doubled and Conner Cassotta had a key single late in the game to
help the A’s earn the win.
Tigers 12, Angels 2
Jake Bryant struck out seven and Dylan Wright closed on the mound
as the Tigers downed the Angels.
Strong defensive efforts of Wyatt Marlow, Brian Fee and Devin
Lurie combined with hits by Ethan Marlow, Cameron Fee, Kyle Langley,
David Kent, Robert Giambone, Kevin Piscapo and recently called up
Jacob Baker, put the Tigers on top.
At Seaview Little League:
Minor A Division
Angels 14, Dodgers 1
Max Mayer recorded five strikeouts in getting the pitching win for
the Angels.
Dominic Granada hit a ground rule double and singled and Chris
Navarro had two hits as the Angels racked up 12 hits, overall.
The Dodgers had single hits from Troy Baljeu, Mitchell Grant, and
Johnny Watkins.
Cubs 7, A’s 2
Cubs starting pitcher, Matthew Thiede struck out eight in four
innings to get the victory.
Quentin Moscaritolo led the Cubs offense with two hits.
Brandon Hastings had an RBI single for the A’s.
Royals 8, Marlins 4
Perry Clitheroe tossed the first complete game in Minor A play
this season as he struck out eight without yielding a walk. He also
had two RBIs and a pair of singles.
Colby Griffith doubled and singled and Nolan Heyer doubled for the
Royals.
Wes Kobel had an RBI double among two hits for the Marlins, and
starting pitcher Scott Orel had six strikeouts.
At Fountain Valley Pony Baseball:
A’s 8, Reds 1
Andy Ragsdale and Race Parmenter combined to pitch a one-hitter as
the Reds won this battle of unbeaten teams.
Fountain Valley Pony Baseball is comprised of players from
Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.
On offense, Ragsdale doubled twice and singled and Trevor
Springman went two for three.
Shortstop Danny Tierney had the A’s defensive play of the game by
diving to rob Reds Johnny Olive’s shot up the middle for the out.
