NEW BALANCE
New Balance Newport Beach is Orange County’s only New Balance
store. Shoes come in hard-to-fit sizes, from narrow to extra-wide.
New Balance spends a substantial amount of its budget on cushioning
research and development. It’s committed to cutting-edge technology,
not expensive celebrity endorsements. It’s also known for its Procare
line of shoes, for medically referred foot problems. Professional
fittings are its trademark. A Brannick device is used for measuring
feet accurately. “Eighty percent of people are not wearing the right
size shoe,” manager Michael Weisenburger said. “When you leave the
store, we want you to have the right fit.” It has a great return
policy -- problem shoes can be returned within 30 days. Medically
referenced customers can wear the new line of dressier shoes, Aravon
($125 to $150). Also, sport shoes for men, women and children, and a
line of hiking boots and clogs from a 100-year-old Vermont company
are available. Sport apparel is carried too. The store, at 932
Avocado St. in the Corona del Mar Plaza, is open from 10 a.m. to 7
p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Call (949)
