SchoolPower fundraiser gala is set
SchoolPower’s “Laguna, An Evening Celebrating Laguna’s Artists and
Schools” auction and dinner dance will be Saturday at the Montage.
The dinner dance will showcase local artists and merchants.
Auction items will include local art, travel and wine among other
items to bid on. The event is black-tie optional. Because this year’s
Community Campaign was so successful, most tickets are already
reserved, but some are still available. For information or tickets,
call SchoolPower at (949) 494-6811.
El Morro minds emerge as the victors
Now in its 25th year, Odyssey of the Mind is an international
educational program that provides opportunities for creative
problem-solving to students from kindergarten through college. Each
OM team selects one of several challenges to solve together.
The teams then bring their solutions to competitions held at the
local, state and international level, where they also test their wits
in “spontaneous” brainteaser sessions. Competing for the first time
against more than a dozen elementary schools from around the Los
Angeles area, El Morro’s intrepid OM’ers captured a first place slot
in their Division, winning high marks for their “Envirover” project.
The team will travel to Sacramento in early April to compete
against other winning schools from around the state. The team
consists of Evan Ehrenberg, Anna Heitmann, Tad Heitmann, Hunter
Moskow, and Samantha Rosiczkowski, and their parent-coaches Christine
Sjolander-Green and Susan Heitmann.

presented a check for $165,000 to Principal Pat Prerost. Profits will
be used to upgrade school facilities and purchase all new computers
for the school computer lab.
