Sea Kings pound Peninsula Panthers, 13-5

Corona del Mar High swept in singles to fuel a surprisingly
resounding 13-5 nonleague boys tennis victory at Peninsula Monday.
Junior Carsten Ball won 18 of 22 games at No. 1 singles for the
Sea Kings (5-0), while juniors Wesley Miller and Spencer Reitz also
won their three sets for CdM.
CdM Coach Tim Mang also credited the play of senior Brennan
Roberts and junior Alex Nguyen, who won two sets and lost a third,
6-7.
CdM competes next against Edison Wednesday.

Sage Hill wins strongly
* TENNIS: The Sage Hill School boys tennis team posted a decisive
16-2 nonleague win at Ocean View Monday.
Ara Dimirjian won 18 of 20 games in singles and Tristian Cordier
also swept in singles for the winners, who are now 3-3.
Sage Hill opens Academy League play today at Oxford Academy.

Sailors edge Dolphins
TENNIS: Newport Harbor High sophomore Robert Khoury swept at No. 1
singles as the visiting Sailors had just enough to earn a nonleague
boys tennis win over Dana Hills Monday.
The match ended tied, 9-9, but Newport (2-2) won the tiebreaker on
games, 74-73.

Sage Hill earns first win
* GOLF: Sage Hill School sophomore Josh Chen shot par 35 to lead
the Lightning to a 197-233 boys golf win over Oxford Academy in the
Academy League opener Monday at Dad Miller golf course in Anaheim.
Rob Greenfield (36), Alex Cochran (41), Geoffrey Grant (42) and
John Neff (43) also scored for the Lightning (1-4).
UCI betters Bulldogs
* TENNIS: UC Irvine senior Jon Endrikat and junior Brian Morton
won in singles and, with separate partners, doubles as well to lead
the Anteaters to a 4-3 nonconference men’s tennis win over visiting
Yale Moday at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
Endrikat defeated Ryan Murphy, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and
also paired with Wkwesi Williams to post an 8-5 triumph at No. 2
doubles.
Morton, a Corona del Mar High product, bested Brandon Wai, 6-2,
6-4, at No. 3 singles. He also joined Ryusuke Kashiwabara to post an
8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.
UCI improved to 7-6.
OCC’s Cassidy medalist
* GOLF: Orange Coast College freshman Jason Cassidy shot par 72 to
earn medalist honors, but host Riverside posted the 389-397 Orange
Empire Conference men’s golf victory Monday at the Victoria Club in
Riverside.
Peter Baker (79), Shaun Vickers (81), Josh Dean (81) and Alex
Dugger (84), also scored for the Pirates, who fell to 7-4, 6-3 in
conference.
Anteaters slip in polls
* BASEBALL: After splitting four games last week, the UC Irvine
baseball team took a hit in the polls.
The Anteaters (14-5-1) are ranked No. 23 by Baseball America and
No. 22 by Collegiate Baseball. They were ranked No. 18 in both polls last week.
UCI begins five straight home games with a three-game
nonconference series against Minnesota, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.
at Anteater Ballpark.
Pirates keep rolling along
* TENNIS: The Orange Coast College women’s tennis team earned its
sixth Orange Empire Conference victory without a loss Monday, topping
Irvine Valley, 8-1.
The Pirates are now 9-1, 6-0 in conference, as IVC dropped to 6-5,
2-4.
Sabrina Tanamal, Darnele Tran, Kai Moriyama, Thao Ho and Jia-Wei
Yuh won in singles and doubles for OCC.
