It’s baseball season once again.

There’s nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass while covering a

game in the warm afternoon sun. Baseball is one of my favorite

sports, and I’ve been anxious for the season to begin.

Getting a good action shot from baseball is difficult because the

action is not constant like in basketball or volleyball. Instead, the

action relies on the ball being hit, and a player being able to make

a play on the ball. In this image, Costa Mesa first baseman Andrew

Sanford charged the plate to field a softly hit grounder. Since he

was so far up the base line, and Calvary Chapel’s Nick Bermel was

running hard to reach first base, Sanford’s only play was to tag

Bermel. In an attempt to avoid the tag, Bermel jumped to the inside

of the base line while passing Sanford, but came up short and was

called out. The image I captured is something we don’t get at every

game, and hopefully, is the start of a prosperous baseball season in

the Newport-Mesa area.
