Turpin at nationals

UC Irvine senior Annmarie Turpin has qualified in the pentathlon for
the NCAA indoor track & field championships at Fayetteville, Ark.,
Saturday.Turpin ranks 13th on the national list with a score of 3,898
points, recorded at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation indoor
championships in Seattle Feb. 26. She is the first UCI athlete to
qualify for the national meet since the university initiated the
women’s indoor program in 2001-02.
Hyleas Fountain of Georgia has the nation’s top score this season
(4,417).
Turpin, who is UCI’s female Big West Conference Scholar-Athlete of
the Year, finished 21st in the heptathlon at last year’s NCAA outdoor
championships.
