ON THE AGENDA

Here are some of the items the Newport-Mesa Unified School

District board of trustees will be discussing tonight.

PRIDE AWARDS

The district will be giving out its Proudly Recognizing

Individuals Demonstrating Excellence Awards.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Teachers, administrators and district personnel will receive the

awards for the second quarter of the 2003-04 school year. The program

recognizes employees providing exceptional customer service to

students, community members and fellow employees.

ADULT EDUCATION WEEK

Adult Education Principal Becky Gogel-Bishai will make a

presentation about adult education in the district.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The presentation will explain the educational and vocational

services the district provides. Programs offered include basic

education, high school diploma, English as a second language,

citizenship, job training, family literacy, programs for handicapped

adults, senior citizens and parents.

Adult education week starts March 16 and the board is expected to

sign a resolution supporting the week.

ADULT SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY MODEL

The board will consider the Alternative Schools Accountability

Model for Back Bay High School.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The state developed the model for alternative schools as part of

the Public Schools Accountability Act. The district has to select

accountability indicators for the model that show the school’s

primary area of focus.

It will likely select graduation credit completion for the model.

FISCAL REPORT

Assistant Supt. of Business Services Paul Reed will present the

board with the 2003-04 second period interim report.

WHAT TO EXPECT

By law, school districts must file interim reports twice each

fiscal year. The first covers the financial and budgetary status of

the district through the end of October. This one will cover the

period ending Jan. 31.

Based on current information, Reed wrote in his report to the

board, the district meets the state’s standards and criteria for

fiscal stability and should continue to though the end of the school

year.
