Photographer Kent Treptow was assigned to document a filmmaking
session on Wednesday by Ernesto Alvarez, 13, Christopher Pacheco, 12,
and Dylan Abel, 11, from the Westside Boys & Girls Club. The club was
given a grant to acquire a new camcorder, a digital camera, scanner
and tripod by electronics retailer Best Buy and the grant required
the club to produce a movie. Kent went with the crew to the Newport
Beach Pier to work on the movie. As the three exercised their
creativity, Kent used his own keen eye and made use of the dramatic
weather to create this image. The leading lines of the cloud
formations are echoed by the lines of the pier and lead the eye, as
triangular patterns do, into the silhouetted shapes of the
filmmakers. With the perfect separation of Ernesto holding the
camera, the elements all come together to give us a photo that not
only tells the story, but grabs our attention.
