* What is the most pressing issue in the state? In Newport-Mesa?
I first decided to run for state Assembly when some of my
schoolmates could not continue their higher education because the
University of California increased its annual tuition by nearly
$1,500. There is no reason that students should have to give up all
the hard work and studious hours they invested through high school
and through college, just because our state government can not
correctly balance a budget. Our school system should remain great
regardless of the state of our economy!
* What is the best solution to the state’s budget crisis?
Returning California to a business-friendly state by getting rid
of outrageous workers’ compensation insurance premiums will make it
easier for both small and big businesses alike to hire more
employees. We can end our reliance on foreign labor and return jobs
to Californians.
Another way to curb our economy’s deficit is to halt illegal
immigration. Although our nation’s immigration policy should be
handled by the federal government, billions of our state’s tax
dollars are being used when our federal government fails to enforce
border policies.
* Assuming the Legislature stays in Democratic hands, how will you
work with the majority party?
It is my commitment to honesty and truth that has motivated me to
fund this election without special interest money. I will represent
the best interests of the citizens of Orange County and California.
By all means, I feel bi-partisanship can be attained in our state’s
Legislature, but I will not compromise my values and obligation to
the voters by sacrificing my integrity. By electing Arnold
Schwarzenegger as our governor, Orange County and California voters
have spoken, saying “It’s time for change!” It is time for a
different mentality about California politics; for new, fresh ideas
that will supercharge our state’s economy; and for a new, innovative
candidate who is willing to say no to special interests groups, and
who will do what is right for California’s people.
* What makes you the best person for the job?
I vow to make education my top priority. Students require
businesses for jobs. Businesses require schools for an educated
workforce. By allowing our education system to sink to one of the
worst in America, we are setting up our business industry for even
more failure.
Many say that I am not the typical candidate for office. My answer
is that they are right, and that this is not the time we should be
electing typical candidates. California needs new ideas, new jobs and
a candidate who will work for the people ... not the special
interests.
* What one thing would you hope to accomplish while in office?
I will work to ensure that California is put back on an
economically stable track -- one where enterprise is encouraged to
succeed instead of encouraged to leave our state. I will ensure the
rights of all citizens of our great state, and I pledge to work
against any legislation that will jeopardize the strength of our
public education system.
