Carr, Vandervort win Newport tourney

Joan Carr and Jo Vandervort shot a 65 to edge Terry Dunn and Pat

Harris by one stroke in the Mary K. Browne women’s golf tournament --

a member-member partner event -- recently at Newport Beach Country

Club. Carr and Vandervort’s score was the low net of the three

tournament flights.

Nancy Curci and Debbie Fleming shot low gross (76) in Flight A

while Harris and Dunn placed first in low net.

Dianne Newberry and Kathleen McDonnell shot low gross (90) in

Flight B while Judy Wittenstein and Maria Heath earned first low net

with a 68. They were followed by Kathy Forde and Linda Green (69),

along with Cindy Marder and Dottie Feeney (71).

Elaine Lieb and Janie Rothschild shot low gross in Flight C (92)

while Colleen Smoot and Karen Scagliotti carded a 69 to win low net,

beating the duos of Joni Johnston-Shawn Mastos and Kay Wright-Susan

Daley. All three teams shot 69, so a card-off was needed to break the

ties. Lieb and Rothschild won by shooting the lowest score on the

back nine.

Lieb and Wittenstein each aced Newport’s hole No. 4 in January.
