ON THE AGENDA

Here are some of the issues the council will consider tonight:

TRANSPORTATION REPORT

The council will receive a report from the Downtown and Eastside

Transportation Ad Hoc Committee. The committee is charged with making

recommendations for traffic improvements on the east side of the

city, including Newport Boulevard, East 17th Street and the

neighborhoods east of Newport Boulevard.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council may postpone any decision. Because an environmental

study to widen Newport Boulevard won’t be available until the late

spring, staff members will ask the council to hold off on providing

final direction until the pubic review process for the study is

complete.

HOME APPEAL

The council will consider an appeal from Councilman Chris Steel of

the Planning Commission’s approval of a two-story residence on Myran

Drive. Steel appealed the decision based on issues such as traffic

and parking, character and community, as well as privacy and quality

of life.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is a tough sell since the proposed project complies with the

development standards and residential design guidelines.

REVISION OF BUDGET

The council will consider adjusting the budget to account for a

$1.1-million decrease in revenues to the general fund compared to

what was adopted in June. This decrease is caused by the loss of

backfill for the vehicle license fees when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

lowered the car tax.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The city is covered since it can absorb the decrease in revenue by

using the available balance in the general fund, according to

Director of Finance Marc Puckett.
