Auction set to benefit kidney donor

The public is invited to join an art show and silent auction that

will benefit the potential donor of Laguna resident Dan Stafford’s

new kidney.

The event will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Ocean Avenue

Brewery, 237 Ocean Ave.

The proceeds will go to support Stafford’s donor. Checks can be

made to Stafford and Associates Trust Account. For information, call

Community Clinic selling concert tickets

The Community Clinic is selling tickets to the Great Jazz Guitars

Concert scheduled for Feb. 21. Sales for the show, which will be

presented by Laguna Beach Live!, will be used to benefit the clinic.

Musicians Bruce Forman, Mundell Lowe, John Pisano and Phil

Upchurch, accompanied by bassist Luther Hughes and drummer Paul

Kreibech, will come together to officially launch the first

JazzMasters Workshop in Southern California, which will start in the

fall at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Tickets will be $25 for adults and $10 for full-time students.

Plant sale will aid Hortense Miller Garden

A plant sale will be held Saturday to benefit the Friends of the

Hortense Miller Garden.

Tulips, irises and other plants will be sold at the Laguna Beach

Farmers Market, and profits will go toward maintenance of the

Hortense Miller Garden.

The garden is open for public tours Tuesdays through Saturdays

throughout the year. Tours can be arranged by calling the Recreation

Department at (949) 497-0716.

City accepting grant applications

The city of Laguna Beach is accepting applications for the

Community Assistance Grant Program until Friday.

The objective of the grants is to assist local nonprofits and

public organizations during the fiscal year 2004-05.

Completed applications may be dropped off or mailed to the city’s

Community Services Department, 515 Forest Ave. Applications must be

Business Club to hold lecture

The Laguna Beach Business Club will host a lecture by Karen Polek,

a holistic health practitioner.

Polek has had a private spiritual and health practice in Laguna

Beach for more than 15 years. The Feb. 19 event will begin at 7:30

a.m. at the Citizens Business Bank, located at 800 Glenneyre St.

Man honored for work with youth shelter

Laguna Niguel resident Tim Lazaris was honored for his work with

the Community Service Program Youth Shelter of Laguna Beach.

For more than seven years, Lazaris has donated his time to the

youth shelter by teaching pre-teen and teenage boys how to play golf.

South County Bank opens its doors

South County Bank officially opened its Laguna Beach branch on

Feb. 5 when Mayor Cheryl Kinsman cut the ribbon at the grand opening.

The bank is offering a Laguna Waive account for all customers who

open a checking account by June 30 . The account is also called a

Laguna Greenbelt offers volunteer training

Laguna Greenbelt Inc. will offer free Wilderness Access Volunteer

training. The training will cover volunteer duties and park history.

No experience, only a love of nature, is required. Seniors and

disabled people are encouraged to attend.

Training will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 22 at Laguna Coast

Wilderness Park. Interested participants should meet at the

Interpretive Center in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. Parking is in

the lot just south of the intersection of El Toro and Laguna Canyon

Fellowship to ordain pastor

The Laguna Beach Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship will formally

ordain Sarah Moldenhaurer-Salazar on Feb. 28. She will also be

installed as the fellowship’s settled pastor. Prior to her service in

Laguna Beach, the Rev. Moldenhaurer-Salazar served as a prison

chaplain.

The public is invited to the 3 p.m. service, which will be held at

the fellowship sanctuary, at 429 Cypress Drive.

Lecturer will discuss work in Kosovo

The Laguna Presbyterian Church will host a lecture by Judge David

O. Carter.

Carter will discuss his work in bringing a new justice system to

Kosovo. It will be Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The church is at
