PREPARATION

Before knocking on your beloved’s door, you should have your

trinkets ready for the giving. Make sure those pure silk boxers are

wrapped; the chocolates have been ordered in advance; and the roses

are beautiful and ready to blossom -- like your love.

EARLY EVENING

Once the flowers have been placed in water, it is time to show

your darling how romantic you can truly be. Take a drive (or walk) to

one of the wonderful view parks at sunset and watch the Western skies

turn warm shades of magenta, rose and amber. Talking can be overrated

at this point, so use words sparingly. If you are going to say

anything, make it good. Oh, and make sure you hold hands.

DINNER

Pick your favorite restaurant and enjoy. Take your time, order her

(or his) favorite bottle of wine, and share a dessert.

AFTER DINNER

Take a quixotic gondola ride in the Newport Harbor and whisper

sweet nothings in your sweetheart’s ear. Most companies that offer

rides provide scrumptious snacks such as a basket of bread, cheese,

salami, and chocolates, plus a blanket and music. Rides run from $75

to $100 per hour.

TURNING IN, TURNING IT ON

Time to head home for the true romance. Dim the lights, play some

Sade, break out the champagne and satin sheets.
