Allegations fly in race for state Senate
This letter is in reference to a story printed about Assemblyman Ken
Maddox on Saturday, titled “Campbell accuses Maddox of ‘secret deal’
with Democrats.”
I have known Maddox since his first campaign for the California
State Assembly in 1998. I know Maddox as a good, conservative
Republican who is passionate about serving his constituents. Any
Republican who knows Maddox would strongly agree.
Having been active in Orange County Republican politics for many
years, Maddox has always been supportive of Republican candidates and
causes. He spends many an evening helping other Republicans and
serving as a role model to the younger activists in our party.
As a Republican, I feel confident knowing that Maddox stands up
for the issues I care about and will be there fighting for those
conservative values. I am excited he is campaigning to move on to the
state Senate.

I think the allegations are very serious and they effect my view
of Ken Maddox as a Republican candidate. John Campbell is now the
only real Republican contender in my opinion. I’m glad this came out
before the primary vote.

Until I read it on the Internet, I did not know that Ken Maddox
was such a “Democratic” Republican. The list of his voting record was
amazing. I, for one, will no longer support him.

Ken Maddox would have us believe that Democrats have paid the
salary of his staff member without seeking a quid pro quo. A quick
review of his voting record reveals otherwise. For example, Maddox
has consistently voted with Democrats to support legislation that
benefits organized labor.
While it is debatable whether Maddox’s votes result in sound
public policy, it is not credible for him to maintain that such votes
are not influenced by his Democrat benefactors. Why else would they
do it? Even more to the point, does he expect his constituents to
fall for such a line?
