Orange Coast College student Chase Wiles embarked Jan. 16 on the
ship Universe Explorer from the port of Nassau, Bahamas as a
participant in the Semester at Sea program. The around-the-world
voyage, administered by the Institute for Shipboard Education, is
scheduled to stop in Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Tanzania, India,
Vietnam, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan before arriving at Seattle
on Apr. 26 ... John E. Perrine of Costa Mesa became a financial
advisor at the Laguna Hills office of Merrill Lynch. Perrine is
married with four children and runs the Newport Harbor High boys’
basketball boosters program ... Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Russell
J. Cliff, son of JoAnn Song and Giang Le of Costa Mesa, graduated
from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
Cliff spent eight weeks learning classroom academics and practical
instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and
courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, firefighting and
marksmanship ... Army National Guard Pvt. Derek A. Ralph graduated
from One Station Unit Training at the U.S. Army Infantry School at
Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. Ralph was trained in drill and
ceremonies, military customs and courtesies, map reading, tactics,
basic rifle marksmanship, physical fitness, field training and first
aid ... Navy Firefighter Thomas A. Dickinson, son of Norma Montana of
Wooster, Ohio and Dan A. Dickinson of Newport Beach, along with his
fellow crew members aboard the aircraft carrier Enterprise, which is
based out of in Norfolk, Va., helped launch the ship’s first
precision-guided munitions attack since the start of the new year ...
Tyler Philip Caffey of Costa Mesa graduated with a bachelor’s in
business administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
