Firefighters will buy gear with grant
The Newport Beach Fire Department has received a $42,140 grant
from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which the department
will use for a fire safety kit.
The kit’s purpose is to ensure firefighters’ safety and to
increase their ability to assess fire hazards, officials said. It
includes three thermal imagers, high-tech devices that not only help
locate victims in a burning building but help firefighters find “hot
spots,” or fires smoldering inside walls.
The kit will also have a rescue bag complete with a self-contained
breathing apparatus, a face piece and the capacity to administer
oxygen in a critical situation.
