ON THE AGENDA
Here are some of the items the Newport-Mesa Unified School
District board of trustees will be discussing tonight.
TEACHER BARGAINING PUBLIC HEARING
The public may comment on the 2003-04 joint reopener proposal for
the collective bargaining agreement between the Newport-Mesa
Federation of Teachers and the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The contract between the district and teachers’ union expired last
June, and they agreed to reopen negotiations on 12 articles. Legally,
the school board has to hold a public hearing for community members
to review the articles. Some of the topics will include employment
hours, union rights, staff evaluations, salaries, health and welfare
benefits and grievance procedures. The board is expected to approve
the proposal.
MEASURE A PROGRAM INFORMATIONAL UPDATE
The board will hear updates on the progress of Measure A, the
$110-million school improvement bond. This is a continuous agenda
item to keep the board in the loop on the construction projects.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The update may include information about work on Group One
schools, which is nearly finished, and work on Group Two schools,
which has started.
MEASURE A
PURCHASING REPORT
Multiple contracts for work at different school sites are up for
approval.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The report covers work at Costa Mesa High School, Davis Education
Center, Wilson, Killybrooke, Kaiser and College Park elementary
schools. It also covers mobile classroom installation at Mariners,
Newport Heights and Sonora elementary schools. The board is expected
to approve the reports.
