Patriot’s Day Parade date set
The 38th annual Laguna Beach Patriot’s Day Parade will march through
Downtown beginning at Laguna Beach High School at 11 a.m. March 6.
The theme is “Freedom Not Free.”
The deadline for program ads is Jan. 16, and for parade entries

Art Escapes workshops
The Art Escapes workshop series will continue at 2 p.m. Jan. 9
with a foiling workshop with Laguna Outreach Community Arts resource
artist Cheryl Stone.
Stone will explore a new and dynamic way of applying decorative
foils to surfaces using heat.
Marinne Van Der Veer will lead a workshop teaching pastel
portraits on Jan. 16. A Sawdust Festival artist, Van Der Veer will
introduce portrait studies with the use of pastels.
The workshop will be held at the Pottery Shack at 1212 S. Coast
Highway. The cost is $30, including materials, and the class size is

Class for mature drivers offered
The next 55-Alive Mature Driving Course will be held from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Jan. 17 through 19 at Lang Park.
Participants must attend both classes. To enroll, call the Laguna
Beach Senior Center coordinator at (949) 464-9535. The fee is $10.

Signups will be accepted until Jan. 12.
In honor of Laguna’s patriots
The Patriots Day Parade Honorees Brunch will be held from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.
At the brunch, the 2004 parade honorees will be introduced.

Woman’s Club accepting Art Sale applicants
The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach is accepting applications from
Laguna Beach women artists for the third annual Art Sale and Auction.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 12. Those interested should call

The Art Sale and Auction will be March 20 and 21. The exhibit
space is free but limited. Exhibiting artists will be asked to donate
one piece for the art auction. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s
Art Instruction program and the Woman’s Club building fund.
League of Women Voters to meet
The Laguna Beach unit of the League of Women Voters will meet at
9:15 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Laguna Beach Club for Kids, above Bluebird
Park, 1470 Temple Terrace.
The topic of the meeting will be forward-thinking strategies for
California’s energy policy. Don Pirch will speak about alternate
energy sources. Charlotte Pirch will speak about her work as a member
of the California Energy Study Committee.

Laguna library starting two clubs
The Laguna Beach Library children’s book club needs a name.
The library is forming a pizza and book club, and it needs a
proper title. Children ages 8 to 12 can come to the library on Jan.
21 with ideas.
There will be pizza, and the group will discuss Carl Hiaasen’s
book, “Hoot.”

The library invites children ages 6 to 11 to try Mexican bark
painting. The crafts club will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 Wednesday.
On Jan. 28, children will be able to design their own
kaleidoscope.
