Turner chooses Princeton

Newport Harbor High senior outside hitter Emily Turner, a first-team
All-Sea View League selection this fall, has committed to play
volleyball at Princeton University next season.
Turner played three years on the varsity squad under Coach Dan
Glenn and earned second-team all-league laurels as a junior.
“[Princeton] is on the East Coast, so it will allow me to
experience something different,” said Turner, who is undecided on a
major. “I saw the team and I like the girls. A lot of them are from
Southern California.”
The Tigers finished 17-6 last fall, good for second place in the
Ivy League. Nine of the 14 players hail from Southern California,
including sophomore setter Jenny Senske (Mater Dei) and Brittany
Wood, a middle blocker from Laguna Beach.
Turner considered Yale, Georgetown, Brown, USC, UCLA and UC
Berkeley before deciding on Princeton, which she likes for its
proximity to New York City.
“It is a 45-minute train ride,” she said. “Living that close will
allow me to see plays and enjoy city life. Who would pass up that
opportunity?”
The Sailors (26-7) finished second in CIF Southern Section
Division II-AA and reached the semifinals of the CIF State Division
II regional semifinal.
Turner battled back from early-season tendinitis in her knees to
provide the Sailors another potent weapon at the net.
She joins fellow senior teammates Alyson Jennings (University of
Texas) and Lauren Miller (Baylor University) -- both All-CIF
first-team Division II selections -- to sign national letters of
intent.
