Laguna Beach’s AYSO Region 86 boys’ Under-14 team, which claimed a
regular season championship, can now add an Area 11-L tournament
title to its resume.
The Laguna team, known as the Jumping Jellybeans, overcame a 1-0
halftime deficit during a cold and wet final to defeat Mission Viejo,
2-1, at the San Juan Capistrano Sportspark in San Juan Capistrano.
Edgar Rabadan’s goal tied up the match and Roy Herbert scored what
turned out to be the winning goal off an assist from Zach Ellis.
In a hectic, two-day game schedule, the Jumping Jellybeans
defeated their first four tournament opponents handily.
Wins over championship teams from San Clemente (3-1), Laguna
Niguel (5-0), Aliso Viejo (4-1) and Mission Viejo (4-1), put the
squad into the division final.
The division had 12 teams competing for the tournament title.
The Jumping Jellybeans had entered the Area 11-L tournament riding
an 18-game unbeaten streak.
They next will compete at the Sectional tournament in March.
“We had so much fun at a really great sports park,” Head Coach
John Brusky said. “All of the kids did such a wonderful job in
winning this tournament. Every single boy played a vital part in the
victory.”
Members of the Jumping Jellybeans boys’ Under-14 championship team
include Rabadan, Herbert, Ellis, Jared Berkson, Taylor Brusky, David
Clausen, Scotty Ferguson, Fernando Garcia, Jaime Melchor, Sam Meyers,
Alex Sasaki, Kyle Snyder, Gabe Stansbury, Noah Starr and Coach
