WHAT HAPPENED:
Five new members -- Cameron Abrams, Alan Chancellor, Charles
Goldenberg, Ken Inouye and Karen Jackle -- were appointed to the
Human Relations Task Force.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The Human Relations Task Force, formed by the City Council in
February 1997, is made up of nine members and meets once a month. The
task force is dedicated to celebrating the diversity of the community
through education and understanding. The group aims to promote
cultural awareness by sponsoring annual community events, film
symposiums and educational field trips.
Mayor Cathy Green and Councilman Gil Coerper, the City Council
liaisons to the task force, recommended the appointment of Abrams, a
nine-year Huntington Beach resident.
Green and Coerper recommended Chancellor, Goldenberg, Inouye and
Jackle for re-election to the board.
WHAT HAPPENED:
A group of areas were approved to be considered for next year’s
community development block grants.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The Department of Housing and Urban Development gives annual
community development block grant funding to programs dedicated to
improving the quality of life for low and moderate income residents.
The federal block grants in the past have supported projects such
as Project Self Sufficiency, the Oak View Community Center and the
Huntington Beach Community Clinic.
In the first step in the block grant funding process, eight areas
were approved Monday to be considered for funding. Eligibility for
projects is based in part upon the geographic location of the
proposed project.
Interested agencies can now apply for community development block
grant funding.
WHAT HAPPENED:
Sgt. Dave Bunnetta was honored with the Mayor’s Award.
WHAT IT MEANS:

since 1988. Since November 2000, he has been in charge of the
community oriented policing team, which works hands on to solve
neighborhood problems such as disputes or parking or noise
complaints.
The team also works on special events and runs the citizen’s
police academy.
WHAT WAS SAID:
“Sgt. Bunnetta is among our very best,” Police Chief Ken Small
said.
