The H.B. Flame Throwers, which won the AYSO Region 56 Under-10
Division championship, claimed the Area 11-K Under-10 Division
tournament title Saturday by shutting out the H.B. Trojans, 3-0, in a
rain-soaked final.
Aaron Rakhshani gave the Flame Throwers a 1-0 lead, scoring off a
pass across the middle by Joey De Marco.
The other two goals were towering shots by Madison Hayden.
In four Area 11-K games, the Flame Throwers outscored their
opponents, 18-0.
Previous tournament wins came over Fountain Valley (6-0),
Westminster (3-0) and Santa Ana (3-0).
By winning the Area 11-K tournament, the Flame Throwers qualified
to compete in January’s Section tournament.
“In all of my years coaching AYSO and club teams, I have never
seen a team get a perfect score for any tournament,” Coach Mike
Weaver said. “Our boys played exceptionally well, especially with a
slippery ball and adverse conditions.
The H.B. Flame Throwers’ lineup also includes Luke Herrington,
Dillon Brown, Brent Bazzell, Scott Campbell, Matthew Mariner, Brendon
Hartjoy and Scotty Weaver.
“We are excited about advancing to the Section tournament,” Coach
Jim De Marco said. “We will be facing teams from Los Angeles to San
Diego and I know we will be competitive.”
