Waves invade UCI

The UC Irvine men’s basketball team ends a 12-day layoff, as well as

a 23-day stint since its last home game, when it meets Pepperdine in

a nonconference clash tonight at 7:05 in the Bren Events Center.

The Anteaters (4-3) enter with a two-game winning streak, while

the Waves (3-5), who have gone 1-2 against Big West Conference foes

this season, are just 1-3 on the road.

Coach Paul Westphal’s West Coast Conference contingent had a

two-game winning streak halted with a 96-72 loss at Maryland Sunday,

despite 36 points from 6-foot-9 junior forward Glen McGowan.

UCI, which defeated Pepperdine, 74-69, in Malibu last season, has

three scorers averaging double figures, led by 6-11 senior forward Stanislav Zuzak (12.6 ppg).

A win would give Coach Pat Douglass, in his seventh season at UCI,

100 victories at the school. He is 99-80 at the UCI helm, including

37 wins in the last 43 home games and an unprecedented three straight

20-win seasons.
