Jennings, Miller, Ensign first-team All-CIF

Alyson Jennings and Lauren Miller, seniors at Newport Harbor High,

and Corona del Mar junior Lindsey Ensign have been named first-team

All-CIF Southern Section by the section’s girls volleyball coaches.

Jennings and Miller, who led the Sailors to the CIF Division II-AA

final and an appearance in the regional semifinals in the state

tournament, are first-team selections in Division II.

Ensign is a first-team choice in Division III after leading the

Sea Kings to a runner-up finish in Division III-A and a state

tournament appearance.

Corona del Mar junior outside hitter Jordan Smith and junior

defensive specialist Breanne Ogden are on the Division III second

team.

Jennings, the 2003 MVP of the Sea View League, is a first-team

selection for a second straight season. A 5-foot-9 outside hitter and

setter who has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of

Texas next year, Jennings helped the Sailors to a 26-7 finish.

In the CIF Division II-AA final against Mira Costa, Jennings had

11 kills, 14 assists and three blocks. She added 14 kills and 19

assists in a regional quarterfinal victory over Scripps Ranch in the

state tournament and had 12 kills in a season-ending loss to Mater

Dei.

Miller, a 5-10 outside hitter bound for Baylor, earned All-CIF

honors for the first time after an All-Sea View League campaign as a

junior. She came up with eight kills in the loss to Mater Dei and had

seven kills and seven aces in the win over Scripps Ranch.

Ensign, also an All-Pacific Coast League selection, particularly

stood out in the Sea Kings’ CIF Division III-A semifinal victory over

Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, collecting 16 kills and 15 digs. The win earned CdM its first championship match appearance since 1997. She

added 10 kills in the title match, a loss to Bishop Montgomery.

Ensign will combine with second-team selections Smith and Ogden to

form a strong nucleus for Coach Bill Christiansen’s Sea Kings next

season.

Newport Beach resident Brynn Maurer, who attends Mater Dei and

will attend the University of San Francisco, was a second-team

selection in Division II. She helped the Monarchs to the CIF Southern

Section Division II-A title and a runner-up finish in the Division II

state playoffs.
