ON THE AGENDA

Here are some of the items the Newport-Mesa Unified School

District board of trustees will be discussing tonight.

ANNUAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

The board will elect new officers and representatives for the next

year. It will vote on a new president, vice president, clerk,

legislative representatives, gang task-force representative, liaisons

to local chambers of commerce and other organizations. It will also

establish meeting dates for next year.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The positions generally rotate, President Martha Fluor said, and

if that holds true, Vice President Dana Black would become president

and Clerk Serene Stokes vice president. As for the new clerk’s

position, the board tends to swap between a representative from Costa

Mesa and one from Newport Beach schools. As Stokes represented

Newport Beach, trustees Dave Brooks, Tom Egan and Linda Sneen would

be eligible as Costa Mesa representatives.

MEASURE A PROGRAM DATE

The board will hear updates on the progress of Measure A, the $110

million school-improvement bond. This is a continuous agenda item to

keep the board in the loop on the construction projects.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The update may include information about work on Group One

schools, which is wrapping up, and work on Group Two schools, which

is starting.

FINANCIAL AUDIT AND FIRST PERIOD INTERIM REPORTS

Accountants have completed the financial audit for last year and

will present it to the board for their review. The district will also

review the First Period Interim Report, for the period ending Oct.

31. The report covers the financial and budgetary status of the

district, which must certify in writing whether or not the district

will be able to meet its financial obligations for the remainder of

the fiscal year.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The board will accept and review both reports and is likely to

give positive certification of its financial stability.
