Fundraiser at Sharky’s to benefit orphanage
Newport Coast Cares will hold a benefit today raising money for an
orphanage in Mexico for children younger than 12.
The benefit will be at Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill, 21119
Newport Coast Drive, and funds will be donated to the Hacienda de la
Immaculada orphanage near Tijuana.
Newport Coast Cares co-founder Brigitte Tehranchi said the group
is raising money to provide mattresses, food, diapers and other wares
to the orphanage, which is home to 42 children. The benefit lasts
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $10 per adult and $5 per child.
Santa and snow fall
on Costa Mesa park
More than 60 tons of snow will blanket Costa Mesa’s Balearic Park
today as part of a city holiday celebration.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, with Santa Claus
arriving by helicopter at 10:30 a.m. Hayrides, cookie decorating,
carolers and fire engines will also be on display. The event is free
and open to the public. The park is at 1975 Balearic Ave.
Firm collecting
for Toys for Tots
First Team Real Estate is asking the community to bring toys to
any of its offices for the Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots
campaign.
The nearest drop off site is at First Team Estates, 17 Corporate
Plaza, Suite 210 in Newport Beach. The office is open from 9 a.m. to
6 p.m. daily.
Mesa water district announces new leaders
Mesa Consolidated Water District announced the appointment of a
new president and first vice president of its board of directors on
Tuesday.
Seven-year board member Fred Bockmiller, a Costa Mesa resident and
manager in the engineering services department at UC Irvine, was
elected president. It will be his second term, having also served
from 1998 to 2000.
Paul Shoenberger, a board member since 2000 and a 13-year Costa
Mesa resident, was elected first vice president. He’s the chief of
engineering and operations for the Central Basin and West Basin
Municipal Water districts.
Bockmiller and Shoenberger have both served on the district’s
executive, finance, engineering and operations and public information
committees.
