Teenager arrested after car accident
Laguna Beach police arrested a Laguna Niguel teenager at 3:38 a.m.
Saturday on suspicion of car theft, hit-and-run and driving under the
influence.
The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was caught in a 2000 Chevy
Silverado pickup truck on Cleo Street near the ocean. Police said the
truck was stolen in Laguna Niguel and that they found an open
container of alcohol in the vehicle.
A 15-year-old girl, also from Laguna Niguel, was in the truck with
the suspect. She was detained and released.
Laguna Beach officer Tony White said he saw the pickup collide
with a white 2003 Acura on South Coast Highway near Forest Avenue. No
one was injured in the crash, which caused minor damage to the
Acura’s left side.
After the crash, the suspect fled the scene, Sgt. Darin Lenyi
said. White and the driver of the Acura chased and caught the suspect
after he made a turn onto a dead-end street.
In addition to the more serious offenses, the boy was also
arrested for driving without a license or proof of insurance.
