Garey heats up for Bucs

Sophomore guard Jason Garey tied a career-high with nine
three-pointers to lead all scorers with 29 points as host Orange
Coast College posted a 63-57 nonconference win over Oxnard Friday.
Garey, who also connected nine times from behind the arc against
Los Angeles Trade Tech last season, converted 6 of 9 shots from
three-point range in the second half to help the Bucs (2-4) hold off
the Condors (1-6).
Coast shot 50% (10 of 20) in the second half, but was still
outscored, 41-36.
Freshman guard Jibri Taylor finished with 11 points while center
Matt Hatch tallied eight with Micah Young and Aaron Bobik each
scoring four points for the Pirates.
Jason Sanford added three points while Wes Terry tallied two.
A 16-5 spurt by Oxnard to start the second half brought the Coast
lead down to 32-31 with 12 minutes, 26 seconds left, but Garey
answered with his second long-range bomb of the half on the ensuing
possession to stop the bleeding.
The Bucs outscored the visitors, 13-6, in a five-minute span in
the second half to regain an 11-point lead.
Taylor converted 6 of 8 free throws in the final 1:31 to ice the
game.
Bobik led Coast with seven rebounds and four assists.
Coast returns to action at 3 p.m. Dec. 19 against Porterville in
the opening round of the Cuyamaca Classic.
