Ocean View hosts prestigious event

Ocean View High once again will host the prestigious Tournament of
Champions, which will feature some of the CIF Southern Section’s top
boys’ basketball programs.
The six-day event debuts Monday with four games and continues on
Tuesday and Wednesday, again with four games scheduled for each of
the two days.
Twelve teams make up this year’s tournament which features a pool
play format.
Among the 12 teams is a defending state champion and three
CIF-Southern Section champions from 2003. Four pools will be made up
of three teams each.
Teams in each pool are as follows:
Pool 1: Division IIIA semifinalist Ocean View; Division IA
quarterfinalist Cajon; Paramount.
Pool 2: CIF Division IIA and Division II state champion Mater Dei;
Chaminade; Etiwanda.
Pool 3: Division IVA champion Verbum Dei; Division IAA runner-up
Silverado, Long Beach Poly.
Pool 4: Division IA champion Loyola, Division IIA quarterfinalist
Dominguez, Serra.
Here are the game-day schedules for the opening of the tournament:
Monday: Cajon vs. Paramount, 3:30 p.m.; Chaminade vs. Etiwanda, 5
p.m.; Loyola vs. Serra, 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday: Ocean View vs. Paramount, 3:30 p.m.; Dominguez vs. Serra,
5 p.m.; Mater Dei vs. Etiwanda, 6:30 p.m.; Long Beach Poly vs. Verbum
Dei, 8 p.m.
Wednesday: Silverado vs. Long Beach Poly, 3:30 p.m.; Ocean View
vs. Cajon, 5 p.m.; Chaminade vs. Mater Dei, 6:30 p.m.; Dominguez vs.
Loyola.
Pool play will continue Thursday, Dec. 11 and Friday, Dec. 12.
On Saturday, Dec. 13, the tournament concludes with the following
schedule:
Noon -- 11th-place game
1:30 p.m. -- Seventh-place game
3 p.m. -- Consolation championship
4:30 p.m. -- Fifth-place game
6 p.m. -- Third-place game
7:30 p.m. -- Championship game
