Mendoza’s four goals lead Eagles

Luis Mendoza scored four goals to lead the Estancia High boys soccer
team to a 5-1 nonleague victory over visiting Santa Margarita
Wednesday.
Rafael Hernandez also scored for Estancia (1-1), which never
trailed and gained assists from Mendoza, Narciso Lumbreras and two
from Quiroga Campos. Estancia goalkeeper Uber Gallegos recorded four
saves.
“This team is very talented,” Estancia Coach Steve Crenshaw said.
“We played a beautiful game.”
Estancia will host Marina Friday at 3:15 p.m.
CdM stays unbeaten
* SOCCER: Senior Chris Ringstrom scored a hat trick as Corona del
Mar’s boys soccer team registered a 3-2 road victory over Santa Ana
Valley Wednesday.
Ringstrom scored off an assist from Brandon Barrett to give the
Sea Kings a 1-0 lead at halftime. He extended the lead off an assist
from Grant Almquist six minutes after the break and built a 3-1
cushion wit a score in the 52nd minute off an assist from Jeritt
Thayer.
Thayer and Julien Cerutti controlled the midfield for the Sea
Kings (2-0), who return to action Friday at Long Beach Poly, while
Jay Zimmerman had nine saves.
Sage Hill drops opener
* BASKETBALL: Sage Hill School’s girls basketball team received 12
points and 16 rebounds from 6-foot-2 junior Katie Puishys, but fell
in its season opener, 69-34, to Calvary Chapel Downey in a nonleague
game Tuesday.
Freshman Kaitlin Tyre added 10 points and nine rebounds for Sage
Hill.
