Gators reach their goal
The Gators boys under-14 soccer team needed two overtimes, but
eventually broke the tie and defeated the United, 3-1, to claim the
championship in AYSO Region 57 play.
Dillon Norton kicked the go-ahead goal in the second overtime and
Camden Nicholson tallied his second goal of the game to cap the
scoring.
After a scoreless first half, the United took a 1-0 lead in the
third quarter on a crossing pass by Chris Valverde headed-in by
Parker Reed. Nicholson tied the game in the fourth quarter on a
left-footed kick.
The Gators’ offense was led by forwards Nicholson and James
Petrilli and midfielders Norton, Paul Bioche, Eric Wright, David
Grant and Max Newfield.
Gators’ goalkeeper Russell Goldberg made two strong saves to go
with solid play by stopper Scotty Berkhausen, sweeper Sam Nadlman and
fullbacks Kenny Cooper and Jon Kiani.
In boys under-10 action:
* White Lightning 3, Blackhawks 2:
The White Lightning clinched the championship in overtime and
improved to 11-0-1.
Jack Presson scored two goals while Zach Murtaugh added one goal
and an assist for the White Lightning.
Goalkeeper Chris Hauser stopped many attacks with help from
teammates Alex Greenberg, Travis Johnson, Armen Mavusi and Evan
Romano.
The midfield was controlled by Matt English, Matt McCoy, Murtaugh
and Presson.
Both the Lightning and Hawks advance to regional play.
In girls under-10 action:
* Heartbreakers 2, Blue Bubble Gum Blasters 1:
The Heartbreakers rebounded from a 1-0 deficit to win the regional
championship.
Katie Senske evened the score and Hailey Senske broke the tie with
a third-period goal.
Brittany Brown gave the Blue Blasters a 1-0 lead with a goal in
the first period.
CdM players included: Gaby Carpenter, Kaitlyn Clark, Paige
Krueger, Campbell Moore, Kylie Mulvaney, Gina Scholey, Hailey Senske,
Riley Senske, Katie Senske and Lindsey Susolik.
Clark, Krueger, Mulvaney and Hailey Senske played strong defense
while Riley Senske made a few key saves in goal.
Moore, Susolik, Carpenter, Scholey and Katie Senske keyed the
offense.
