UCI trio named to first team
UC Irvine junior Kelly Wing, a repeat first-team selection,
highlights four Anteaters named first-team All-Big West Conference by
conference women’s volleyball coaches.
Wing, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, is joined on the first team by
teammates Ashlie Hain, a junior setter, and junior middle blocker
Sami Cash.
Wing has led the Anteaters to a 21-9 record, 12-6 in the Big West.
The latter, good for second place, represents UCI’s best conference
finish. Wing was named conference Player of the Week four times this
season and became only the fourth player in Big West history to hold
five such awards in a career. Hain has ranked among the nation’s
assist leaders for 12 weeks and reaching a ranking as high as No. 3.
Cash, UCI’s leader with a .367 hitting percentage, was No. 1 among
conference rivals in hitting percentage early in the season and is
currently ranked No. 2 in that category.
Dana Kurzbard, a 6-5 junior middle blocker, received honorable
mention.
