ON THE AGENDA

Here are some decisions to be considered by the City Council

tonight.

GOETZ ARCHITECT CLIENTS

An item that roused intense emotions two weeks ago could do the

same tonight as the council tries to figure out how to help former

clients of architect Andrew Goetz. The Newport Beach architect was

arrested on suspicion of submitting wrong survey information to the

city, resulting in buildings slightly taller that zoning codes would

normally allow. A number of his projects are under construction, and

some clients are shouldering huge costs as the fate of their homes

lies in limbo.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will try to balance the urgent needs of some of

Goetz’s clients with the effects his designs could have on

surrounding neighborhoods.

PACIFIC CITY PROJECT

A sprawling development in Huntington Beach could inspire some

hollers from its neighbor to the south. The council will consider

whether the city wants to put in its two cents on the project’s

environmental report.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Newport has some worries that the environmental studies don’t take

into consideration some effects the project will have on traffic

along Coast Highway in Newport. Newport leaders also take issue with

the environmental report’s assumption that a 19th Street bridge will

be built, and they want the report to take into consideration what

happens if the bridge is not built.

PARKS COMMISSION VACANCY

The meeting will also offer a glimpse into who will replace Steve

Rosansky on the city’s Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission.

Rosansky stepped down from the post to fill Gary Proctor’s vacant

seat on the City Council.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will hear the names of the people nominated to fill

the job. Then interviews will be scheduled. The new commissioner will

be named at the next council meeting.
