Sophomore free safety Nick Dominelli was a unanimous selection to the
All-Mission Conference American Division defensive first team to lead
10 Orange Coast College football players with postseason awards.
Dominelli, a two-time honoree, led the Pirates in tackles for the
second straight season, posting 110 this fall. He also led Coast with
five interceptions to go with eight pass breakups, a 1/2 sack, one
forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also scored one touchdown
this season and finished with three in his career.
Freshman defensive lineman Justin Williams joined Dominelli on the
first team. Williams led the team with 10 1/2 sacks despite missing
three games with an injured knee. Williams tallied 54 tackles, six
for a loss and forced three fumbles, recovering one.
The Bucs had eight players honored with second-team recognition.
Freshman wideout Justin Humalon, tight end Jon Garcia and left tackle
Emil West were chosen.
Humalon led the Pirates with 33 receptions for 528 yards and three
touchdowns, scoring twice in the season finale against Golden West.
Garcia caught 11 passes for 142 yards while West anchored the
offensive line.
Five Pirate defenders were named to the second team. Linebackers
Beau Gertz, Chris Cassidy and Joe Mitchell were all honored. The trio
combined for 181 tackles, 13 for a loss, six sacks, three forced
fumbles and one recovery. Sophomore strong safety Una Latu and
defensive end Ryan Miller round out the squad.
Latu finished second on the team with 81 tackles, including seven
for a loss, to go with one interception, three pass breakups and two
fumble recoveries.
Miller, who missed nearly half the season due to injury, ended
with 46 tackles (seven for a loss), two sacks and two forced fumbles.
