Pirates lose in home opener

The Orange Coast College women’s basketball team lost its home opener
as it could not hold its nine-point halftime lead and suffered a
77-72 nonconference loss to Cerritos Friday night.
OCC, the defending state champion, fell to 2-2 on the season.
The Pirates led, 37-28, at halftime after shooting 53% (15 of 28)
from the field, but they went down to 35% (12 of 34) in the second
half, while Cerritos shot 51% (16 of 31) and drained 6 of 15 shots
from behind the three-point line.
Sophomore Alisa Carrillo led the Pirates with 23 points, netting
10 of 16 from the field.
The Falcons (5-2) were led by Brittney Thomas and her game-high 29
points.
OCC sophomore Kirsten Von Tungeln grabbed 10 rebounds and scored
eight points, while Biava Arganda scored 11 points for the Pirates,
and Rhondi Naff had nine.
