Costa Mesa teams head for title games

Two Costa Mesa Pop Warner football teams are advancing to the

championship games in their respective divisions.

The Jr. Pee Wee Black Mustangs defeated the Long Beach Gold Rams,

34-0, in their latest triumph Saturday to record their sixth shutout.

Parker Norton scored three touchdowns, the first on a 48-yard punt

return after the game’s opening series. The others came on runs of 18

and 22 yards.

Graeme Fraser added the extra point to give the Mustangs an early

8-0 lead.

Mark Contreras scored touchdowns on runs of 40 and 38 yards with

help from the offensive line of Dakota Gilbert, Grant McKee, Fraser,

Tyler Henry and Dillon Miller.

Buzzy Yokoyama, who returned an interception 50 yards, Michael

Taormina, Contreras (interception), Henry, McKee, Brandon Kelly, Jack

Jeffries and Zack Porteous provided strong tackling.

The Mustangs will play in the Orange Bowl for the first time in 13

years and will face the undefeated Yorba Linda Longhorns at 10 a.m.

Saturday at Tesoro High.

In Pee Wee play:

* Costa Mesa Green Mustangs 14, Brea Bengals 0:

Mike Kelly intercepted a screen pass and returned it 45 yards for

the first Mustang score and Todd Davis converted the two-point try

for the 8-0 lead.

The Mustangs’ second touchdown came on the second-half kickoff

when Frank DeNoewer returned it 71 yards.

Chris Gute played well on both sides of the ball along with Daniel

Derieg.

Brett Farthing added an interception and the defensive unit helped

the Mustangs avenge a loss to Brea earlier in the season.

The Mustangs face the Stanton Raiders for the championship at 2

p.m. Saturday at Tesoro.
