Ensign defeats Sowers in championship game

The Ensign eighth-grade girls basketball team would not be denied

this time, defeating its rival Sowers, 20-17, to claim the league

championship Friday.

Ensign used strong defense and character to defeat Sowers, which

they had lost to by one point in the final game of the regular season

when both teams came in 5-0.

The win was especially gratifying since Ensign lost to Sowers for

the championship last year. Sowers claimed victories in playoff

finals of basketball, volleyball and soccer last year.

Alesha Young, Cassidy Gaynor, Jamie Heenan, Taylor Holden, Cecilia

Smissen, Malia Hohl, Allie Noon, Catherine Cameron, Regina Cuevo,

Crystal Mena, Jessica Lincoln, Katy Storch, Kelsey Niebuhr and Lauren

Fulsebakke all contributed to the championship.
