Jennings sparks Tars
Newport Harbor High senior standout Alyson Jennings enjoyed an
all-around excellent match Saturday night to lead the Sailors to a
four-game victory over host El Dorado, 25-9, 25-11, 19-25, 25-13, in the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA girls volleyball playoffs.
The University of Texas-bound Jennings, a solid candidate for
Orange County Player of the Year honors, recorded 14 kills, five
service aces, five stuff blocks and 25 setter assists.
Second-seeded Newport Harbor (24-5) will play at No. 3 Edison at 7
p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals. Other standouts in the Tars’ win over
El Dorado included Lauren Miller (10 kills and two aces), Kiley Hall
(eight kills and four blocks), Emily Turner (11 kills and three
aces), Taryn Tarnutzer (nine kills) and Kellie King (26 assists).
El Dorado fell to 11-8.
Ensign, Smith lead CdM
* Corona del Mar’s Lindsey Ensign recorded 12 kills and three
blocks and Jordan Smith had 11 kills and seven digs as the host Sea
Kings swept Santa Ynez, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23, in the CIF Division
III-A quarterfinals Saturday night.
The second-seeded Sea Kings (20-8) will travel to third-seeded
Notre Dame Sherman Oaks at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.
Ashley Bill (26 assists) and Breanne Odgen (seven digs) also led
Corona del Mar over Santa Ynez (15-5).
