A chance to adopt a family for the holidays
- Share via
JIM DE BOOM
Get in the spirit and adopt a needy family for the holidays. You,
your family or even your office can adopt a family for Thanksgiving,
Christmas or both.
You can adopt a needy family by contacting Serving People In Need
(SPIN), Friends in Service to Humanity (F.I.S.H.) of Harbor Area or
Share our Selves (SOS). All three groups have dozens of local
families that would benefit from the adoption, families that they
have worked with throughout the year.
“The Thanksgiving adoption involves the ‘adopters’ providing
groceries for a traditional meal, including a turkey or a store
voucher to purchase the turkey, yams and/or potatoes, cranberry
jelly, stuffing, vegetables, fruit, nuts, pie and a disposable
roasting pan,” said Anne-Marie Vercueil, SPIN’s case manager.
The Christmas adoption involves providing food and gifts for the
needy family -- adults and children. In most cases, you get to
present your Thanksgiving meal or Christmas gifts to the family
itself.
Contact SPIN at (714) 751-1101, ext. 105; FISH at (949) 645-8050;
and SOS at (949) 642-3451.
Tell them you are a Daily Pilot reader and want to adopt a family.
You will make a difference!
HEARTS AND HANDS DAY

GIVE THANKS TOGETHER
The Newport-Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council invites the community
to an Interfaith Celebration of Thanksgiving on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 4
p.m. at Harbor Christian Church.
The Rev. Dennis Short, pastor at Harbor Christian Church and the
council’s president, will be joined by Rabbi Marc Rubenstein of
Temple Isaiah and Imam Moustafa Al-Qazwini of the Islamic Education
Center of Orange County in a service of thanksgiving, praise and
music. Those attending are asked to bring two cans of food to be
shared with SOS, Families Forward and FISH.
WORTH REPEATING
From Thought for the Day provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport
Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council:
“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an
opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good
example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will
make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.”
