FASHION SHOW
The Balboa Bay Club Resort was the setting for a designer fashion
show by Fendi. In the private members’ Grill dining room overlooking
the Newport Harbor, the Sound of Music Guild of the Orange County
Performing Arts Center invited members and guests to a luncheon
social featuring the winter fur collection of Fendi.
Co-chaired by Kelly Hague and Eve Kornyei, the luncheon by the bay
raised thousands of dollars to underwrite the Sound of Music gala set
to take place in 2004.
Underwriting chairs Harriet Sandhu and Kimberly Feinberg announced
that $150,000 in underwriting had been raised to date, ensuring a
major donation to the Center from the guild. Dining on a luncheon of
salmon, the ladies watched a parade of designer furs flown in from
New York and modeled by exquisite young women showing off the
copyrighted designs of Fendi, represented by Margaret Kirby of the
South Coast Plaza Fendi boutique.
Spotted in the crowd were elegant-jewelry designer Diane Cruzan,
Kathie Porter, Robin Newton Iacona, Jennifer Condas, Patsy Marshall
and the very chic Sally Crockett.

CANDY CANE BALL
Holidays in Newport are synonymous with the Candy Cane Ball. The
55th annual Candy Cane Ball sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary of the
Assistance League of Newport-Mesa will take place Dec. 5 in the grand
ballroom of the Balboa Bay Club & Resort Hotel.
The elegant holiday affair will have an element of nostalgia as it
returns to the Balboa Bay Club. The very first Candy Cane Ball in
1948 took place the year the original bay club opened. After three
years of reconstruction, the new bay club ballroom will once again be
graced by Assistance League supporters inaugurating a new chapter in
Candy Cane Ball legend.
Chaired by Michelle Tingler and Marilyn Bendetti, with support
from Bonnie Savard and Vivian Browne, Cameron Bryson and Sandy
DeYoung, the evening is expected to attract a capacity crowd of more
than 500 guests raising needed funds to support the charities of the
Assistance League.
The Wayne Foster Orchestra has been tapped to entertain the
black-tie event, which will feature a martini bar, a sit down dinner
and one of the grandest live and silent actions on the California
Riviera. Reservations are still available at $150 per person. Please
call the Assistance League office at (949) 645-6929 to join the
celebration.
