OCC oars shine
Orange Coast College swept the first two spots in the 12-boat men’s
collegiate eight race and also won the men’s novice eight Sunday at
the San Diego Fall Crew Classic on Mission Bay.
OCC finished the course, estimated by OCC Coach Larry Moore at
three miles, in 20:25, to win the collegiate eight, followed by
another boat of Pirates one second behind.
The winning OCC boat included Wes Temple, Steve Egner, J.T. Eger,
Jake Carr, Nolan Rousset, Russ McShane, Ray Coates, Brian Moran and
coxswain Ashley Thomas.
The OCC novice eight winner finished in 21:13, 39 seconds ahead of
runner-up San Diego State in the time-trial format.
The Pirates’ winning novice eight included Steven Edmonds, Patrick
Israel, Mike Oxbig, Jeff Collett, Shane Rubin, Corey Hopkins, Brandon
Cesear, Sam Proctor and coxswain Lauen Beitel. OCC also won the men’s
open four with cox, finishing in 22:11 to best San Diego State by 37
seconds.
The Pirates were third in that race, as well.
OCC was second in the men’s novice four event, clocking a 25:03,
17 seconds behind UC Santa Barbara.
Also in the men’s novice eight, OCC boats finished fifth, sixth,
seventh and eighth.
OCC was 10th in the women’s collegiate and junior novice eight and
seventh in the women’s collegiate eight.
