‘ART ESCAPES’

Laguna Outreach Community Arts will be holding art workshops with

a different medium every week taught by professional artists at the

Pottery Shack at 1212 S. Coast Highway. The workshops will be at 2

HARRY’S HARVEST FESTIVAL

The Neighborhood Congregational Church will hold its annual

“Harry’s Harvest Festival” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. This is a

community event for the whole family. The theme focuses around Harry

Potter and will have crafts, games and contests. There will also be

raffle prizes, live music, food and boutique items for adults. There

is a suggested donation of $2 per person and lunch is additional.

GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION

Local T-n-T (Treasures-n-’Tiques) at 682 N. Coast Highway will

have their Grand Opening Celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 8. Local

owners, Lenelle Garcia and Cam Hamil invite everyone to join the

festivities. The gallery/store will be featuring the work of local

artists including Raku by Mike Brennan, photography by Robert Jones,

watercolor by Marie Garcia and many others. The opening will include

hors d’oeuvres and live music by the Lenelle Garcia Band.

RESTORATION DAYS

Laguna Greenbelt Restoration Days is looking for people to join

park volunteers for a morning of habitat restoration in Laguna Coast

Wilderness Park. Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. has planned a series of

restoration days on the third Saturday of each month through June

2004. It will be from 8 to 11 a.m. and volunteers will help remove

nonnative plants. Meet at the Interpretive Center and parking will be

provided in the gravel parking area just south of the El Toro Road

and Laguna Canyon Road junction. Bring gloves, hat, sunscreen, shovel

and pruners (if you have them) and sturdy shoes and water. All

volunteers receive a free “Keep It Wild” T-shirt. For information,

MATURE DRIVING COURSE

“55-Alive Mature Driving Course” will be offered at Lang Park Nov.

1 and Nov. 8. You must attend both classes. To enroll, call the city

EL MORRO HOLIDAY FUND-RAISER

The El Morro fifth-graders are kicking off their holiday

fund-raiser today with beautiful Poinsettia flowers and Rosemary Tree

topiaries for sale. They receive the flowers discounted for us from

Hines Nursery in Irvine. This year Hines has increased its

availability and we are offering these flowers for sale to the

community. Prices are three Poinsettias for $21, six Poinsettias for

$36, Cone Tree Shape Rosemary Topiaries are $18. Orders and money

need to be received at El Morro by Nov. 24. Flowers will be ready for

ART CLASSES AT FESTIVAL

Festival of Arts is offering fall art classes on Saturdays running

through Nov. 30 with Jr. Membership classes for children at $5 per

class and adult classes which are $70 for festival members and $85

STONE CARVING WORKSHOP

Laguna College of Art and Design is offering a community education

Stone Carving workshop Saturdays through Nov. 15. Learn the

techniques of the time-honored art form using both hand and

pneumatically driven tools working in a variety of stones. The class

will be taught by stone carvers Marvin Johnson and Joseph Sovella. No

prior experience is necessary. The class is available for beginners

to advanced. Technical skills will be taught as part of the process.

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park offers hiking, mountain biking and

The public is invited to play ball at Laguna Beach High School.

Full-court pick up games are played in the school’s gym from 9 a.m.

OUR TOWN IN

THE EARLY 1900s

“Greetings from Laguna Beach: Our Town in the Early 1900s” just

opened at the Laguna Art Museum and will feature paintings,

photographs and memorabilia that chronicle life in Laguna Beach circa

1900 to 1930. The exhibit includes works by William Wendt, Joseph

Kleitsch, Clarence Hinkle, Edgar Payne and Anna Hills. In 1910,

Laguna’s population was around 300 and many of its residents were

writers, artists and musicians. Laguna Art Museum is at 307 Cliff

FREE FLU SHOTS

Laguna Beach Senior Center will have a Free Flu Shot Clinic from 8

a.m. to noon today at the Veteran’s Memorial Community Center at 384

Legion St. South Coast Medical staff will give the shots. They will

be administered free to seniors 60 and older on a first come first
