Seahawk clinch Golden West League title

The Ocean View High girls’ volleyball team clinched the Golden West

League championship Monday with an easy 25-7, 25-5, 25-4 victory over

Westminster.

The Seahawks, who improved to 11-0 in league and 12-2 overall,

wrap up league play today at home against Saddleback.

In other girls’ volleyball action, Edison dropped a 19-25, 25-22,

17-25, 21-25 match to visiting Esperanza in a battle between two

teams fighting for sole possession of the Sunset League lead.

Colleen Burke had 17 kills and Ashley Collier had 12 for the

Chargers.

Huntington Beach also lost in Sunset play as the Oilers fell in

four to host Los Alamitos, 25-23, 27-29, 25-27, 15-25.

At the Sunset League cross country championships Saturday at

Huntington Central Park West, Edison’s Joe Gatel ran a 15.44.8 to win

the boys’ varsity race, but it was Fountain Valley that claimed the

overall boys’ title.

The varsity girls’ championship was won by Esperanza.

In girls’ golf Monday, Jennie Lee shot a 27 at Mile Square Park as

Edison edged Fountain Valley, 246-247.

At Costa Mesa Country Club, Ocean View fell to Oxford Academy of

Cypress, 236-251.

In boys’ water polo played Monday, Huntington Beach fell to Los

Alamitos, 10-2, and Edison lost to Esperanza, 13-2.

In the latest CIF Southern Section rankings, three area boys’

water polo teams were ranked in the Division II Top 10 poll: Marina

was No. 4, Huntington Beach was No. 7 and Edison is ranked No. 8.
