HB Breakers win baseball tournament
The HB Breakers’ 12-and-under club baseball team won the four-team
Moreno Valley Invitational Tournament on Sunday.
The Breakers went 1-1 in their first two games yet still qualified
for the championship game.
In the final, the Breakers avenged a tournament-opening loss to
the Moreno Valley Yankees by defeating the host team, 4-3, to win the
title.
Kyle Ball struck out seven in three innings and Tyler Buckles
didn’t allow a run in closing out the final three innings for the
Breakers.
The game turned in the fourth inning when Chris Lien doubled and
scored on Cody Morad’s two-out double, giving the Breakers a 4-3
lead.
Tony Giovinetti and Josh Lesinski each had RBI singles in the
game.
The Breakers opened the tournament with a 5-4 loss to Moreno
Valley, a game in which Lesinski and Giovinetti each had two hits.
They bounced back in their second outing to rout the Empire
Baseball Academy Scorpions, 13-1. Sean Guite pitched his way to a
one-hitter and struck out five in a game halted after three innings.
Lesinski led the offense with three hits and four RBIs and Guite,
Morad, Lien and Aaron Ochoa each had an RBI single.
For the tournament, the Breakers had a .333 team batting average
and a .506 on-base average.
The title was the team’s second straight in tournament play.
Huntington Valley Little League registration set
Huntington Valley Little League will hold the first of three
upcoming signup sessions for its 2004 spring season on Nov. 22.
Registration will take place near the snack bar at Wardlow Fields
between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Wardlow Fields is located at 9191 Pioneer Ave., near Magnolia St.
and Adams Ave.
The league is open to any boy or girl age 5 to 14 as of July 31,
2004 and who lives withing the Huntington Valley Little League
boundaries.
The cost per player if $95 for Little League divisions (ages 7 to
12), and $130 for Junior Division (ages 13-14).
Players are required to bring an original birth certificate and
proof of residency to the signup.
In addition, $100 is required per family for league fund-raising.
Future registration dates are Nov. 23 and Dec. 13.
