Crush finish season undefeated

Brittany Sowers and Margaret Vento each scored one goal to lead the
Newport Crush girls under-14 AYSO Region 97 soccer team to a 2-0
victory over the Costa Mesa Little Pickles Oct. 25 and finish the
season undefeated.
Both goals were scored in the third quarter with Kelly Clark,
Stephanie Stone and Jillian Fox all leading attacks.
Katrina Johnson, Megan Beauchamp, Elizabeth Pratty, Miranda Ruiz
and goalkeeper Nichole Horlick prevented the Little Pickles from
scoring.
Coach Robert Horlick, assistants Danny Simon and Duane Thomas,
along with parent Mary Vento, helped throughout the season.
In boys under-14 Plus play:
* Newport Sharks 10, Tustin 1:
Cory Hanley and Cameron Chase each scored three goals to lead
Newport.
Calvin Jhunjhnuwala provided seven assists and scored twice while
Andrew Kaban and Steve Stoneman each found the back of the net once.
Taylor Davis added to the offense.
Taylor Allee, Spencer Baratto, Peter Nguyen, Rob Joslin and
Brandon Rowley led the defense in front of goalkeeper Rex Nelson.
In girls under-12 play:
* Blue Attitude 2, Breakers 0:
MacKenna Zorn scored both goals for the Blue Attitude on assists
from Kathryn Zimmermann and Emily Rosales.
Erika Page, Nichole Vento and Sarah Buckingham applied pressure on
the Breakers.
Kaitlin Kehoe and Nichole Vieira controlled the midfield while
Brianna Truxton and Morgan Moody turned away numerous Breakers’
chances.
Tabitha Goff, Sydney Clayton, Samantha Parisi and Caitlin Gonaway
also added to keep the Blue Attitude undefeated.
In girls under-10 action:
* Fireballs 1, Green Goblins 0:
The Fireballs improved to 8-0 with the shutout.
Rachel Vensand scored the lone goal with offensive support given
by forwards Ailani Hause, Molly Anderson and Kirsten Rohan.
Midfielders Morgan Long and Elyssa Barnett moved the ball through
the midfield.
Gianna Light and Kate Batstone turned back numerous Goblin
offensive chances while Sofia Muscatello (two saves) and Christine
Jacques (one save) split goaltending duties.
* Blue Crush 3, Highlighters 2:
Gretchen Tingler scored twice and Madison Wooters added a single
goal to lead the Blue Crush (6-2).
Sweepers Allison Schelin and Taylor Harrison controlled the
midfield with Erin Hinkleman, Alex Kehoe, Brittany Stump, Danielle
Harrison, Caroline Graham and Tiara Landrigan providing support.
The Highlighters were short-handed, meaning all eight girls played
the entire game.
Greer Wattson and Kellie Conant scored goals for the Highlighters
with help on offense from Katie Hurlbut.
Jamie Darling, Paige Tennison, Hannah Beek, Sydney Fox and Olivia
Hovis led the Highlighters’ rally from a 3-0 deficit.
In boys under-10 play:
* Silver Wolves 5, Toxic Fumes 2:
Caleb Candelaria and Robert Boullon each scored two goals to lead
the Silver Wolves.
Boullon scored twice in the first quarter and Casey Shearer added
the final goal for the Wolves.
The Wolves began the game strong with forward Clay Smyth,
midfielder Eli Gomez and defender Wyatt Muller.
Fullbacks Cody Lippman and Nathan Mayhugh, along with forward
Jason Wooding, led the Wolves attacks in the second quarter.
Jacob Swain and Efe Atli each made key saves in goal for the
Wolves.
* A.C. Milan 7, Green Hurricanes 1:
Landon Gyulay scored three goals with single tallies coming from
Jesse Torres, Ian Baugh, Ryan Cerrato and Charlie Pena for A.C.Milan.
Baugh played goal for the first half and Cerrato took over for the
final two quarters.
Sweeper Nick McCann, along with defenders Willie Pyle, Pena, True
Tamplin and Christian Franco, anchoring the defense.
Kyle Regan, Sam Sykes and Max Johnson led the midfield for A.C.
Milan (7-0-1).
* A.C. Milan 3, Hot Ice 0:
A.C. Milan took over first place with its third shutout of the
season.
Baugh, Gyulay and Torres scored for Milan with strong defense
played by Franco, Tamplin, McCann, Pyle and Pena.
Johnson, Sykes and Regan controlled the midfield in front of
goalkeepers Baugh and Cerrato.
In boys under-8 action:
Chas Beck scored two goals to lead the Green Goblins against the
Red Storm.
Cole Chapin, Wil Crook, Marc Gehlke, Eli Botros, Joey Gregory and
Andrew Dimas moved the ball well with Jake Farwell and T.J.
Tarazevits stopping several Storm attacks.
In girls under-7 play:
Toni Holland scored two goals for the Blue Flames in the fourth
quarter in their game against the Firecrackers.
The Firecrackers’ first goal came in the third quarter when Libby
Knight took an inbounds pass from Riley Alexander and fired the shot
into the net with her right foot.
The Blue Flames had many chances to score early but were stopped
by goalkeeper Sierra Page.
Miranda Hart and Reagan Rutter anchored a strong first-half
defense.
Amanda Brown, Ryan Moncrief and Kira Wandrocke all contributed to
the offense. Moncrief took the ball from end-to-end, displaying
improved ball-handling skills.
Bryn Alexander shined on defense, where she made several stops in
the second half.
Sierra Killingsworth and Sierra Stump defended the Blue Flames’
goal well in the first quarter, along with help from McKenzie
Stephens. Julia Carney made two saves in the second quarter while
Allana Rockwell, Haley Burg and Tara Hurley led the defense in the
third quarter.
Juliette Stepniak made two strong saves, allowing Sophia D’Angelo
to pass the ball to Holland for her two goals.
* Abbey Pickett scored two goals, both set up by Samantha Ludes
and Kate Pipkin, for the Surfer Girls against the Hula Girls.
Mallory Gyulay scored her second goal for the Hula Girls in the
game’s final seconds. Kate Yasko added a goal in the second quarter
with Gabby Shelley and Kierstyn Yardley adding to the Hula Girl
offense. Caroline Geis aided on defense.
Goalkeeper Brittany Welsh made several saves.
Rachel Whitelegge had some strong kicks for the Surfer Girls while
Macy Day hustled.
Carlee Kapana played her first game as goalkeeper with Kelsey
Prater stopping a few shots on defense.
* The Chicks That Kick played against their parents when the
opposing team didn’t show.
Every Chicks’ player scored including Sofie Bercaw, Claudia Davis,
Nathaly Diaz, Grace Emmel, Hanna Hogan, Melissa Machuca, Taylor
Matthews and Margaret Molloy.
In boys under-7 action:
* Landon Knight scored two goals and Griffith Clawson added an
assist with several saves in goal for the Orange and Black Tigers
against the Blue Fireballs.
Jack Binford and Baron Davis each made strong passes to lead to
shots on goal.
Binford added numerous stops of Fireball shots in the fourth
quarter while goalkeeper William Johnson made several saves in goal
for the Tigers in the fourth quarter.
In girls under-6 play:
* Erika Ellis scored two goals while Emily Goltz added a third for
the Fireflies against the Silver Stars.
Laura Mackenzie dribbled the ball the length of the field several
times and narrowly missed the goal with a shot.
Charlotte Monke also dribbled well and keyed the Fireflies’
defense.
Heather Roberts added strong ball handling.
In boys under-6 play:
* The Green Dragons were led by the scoring of Nicolas Perales and
defense by Riley Schupak and Richie Simons in their game against the
Yellow Jackets.
Ryan Simons, Cole Schattinger and Wells Drayton also played well
on defense and Angus Batstone added a breakaway.
* The Blue Sharks offense showed up against the Warriors.
Cade Clement scored two goals with Jake Van Herwaarden adding a
single goal for the Sharks.
Jack McClintock and Kevon Andonian each had a few shots on goal
with Mason Lindh moving the ball and providing several assists.
* Each member of the Men in Black scored a goal, including Jake
Weyrich and Kingston McCarthy, who each tallied their first goals of
the season.
Jeremiah Sheldon, Andrew Laidlaw, Sean Freeman and David Fisher
added multiple goals.
* The Chili Peppers’ offense shined against the Green Hornets with
goals from Jack Cornuke, Sam Skinner, Wilson Lubeck and Reed Rutter.
The Chili Pepper defense was equally strong with shots stopped by
Peter Horano and Jack McKasson.
