Good day to get up and dance
Saturday the California Choreographers Dance Festival will offer a
day to celebrate the diversity of dance and is inviting the public to
join them for free dance lessons in different disciplines by
professional dancers.
There will also be a dance performances throughout the day.
Classes begin at 10 a.m. at No Square Theatre’s rehearsal Studio,
221 Broadway. From 10 to 11:30 a.m. Steve Josephson will be teaching
jazz dance; Abdoulaye Camara will teach African dance from 11:45 a.m.
to 1:15 p.m.; and Lula Washington will teach modern dance from 1:30
to 3 p.m.
Dance performances by various professional dancers will be at Main
Beach from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Regan Patno and Julia Snyder, “The
Tweaksters,” will offer original blending of ballet feats, precision
juggling and acrobatic choreography. Patrick David Bradley of “The
San Pedro Ballet” will perform with elegant and lyrical movement and
Robin Kish will provide character-driven choreography in a classical
modern piece depicting life’s joy, hope and despair.
Dudley Brooks will give a free workshop called “Physical Comedy
for Dance” from 6 to 9 p.m.
California Choreographers Dance Festival was initiated in Laguna
Beach in 1998. Its mission is to bring dance to people and people to
