A week off for the Breakers

The Laguna High football team moved -- more like, was forced --
indoors to conduct practices this week due to the ongoing wildfires
that have ravaged Southern California.
Smokey conditions and ash-filled skies have led to the
cancellation of prep sporting events and football practices
throughout Orange County this week.
Coach Dave Holland said late Wednesday afternoon that even
Thursday’s Pacific Coast League 7 p.m. clash with host Tesoro in Las
Flores was a “game in doubt.”
“We haven’t been allowed to practice all week outdoors and as
right now, we’re uncertain about playing Thursday’s game,” he said.
The Breakers held an indoor walk-through practices Monday and
Wednesday, and took Tuesday off.
“We’re not as prepared as we should be for this game, but if we do
play, we’ll be ready,” Holland said.
Laguna is coming off a 35-0 home loss to two-time defending league
champion Northwood.
Two notables came from the outcome: the shutout ended Laguna’s
streak of 44 games in which the Breakers had scored, and the loss
marked the first time this season that the Breakers’ record (3-4)
dipped under .500.
Laguna next will host University at Guyer Field on Nov. 7.
