Edison stays hot in girls’ volleyball

The Sunset League girls’ volleyball race has been a tight race

throughout the league season and with three matches remaining, the

crown is anybody’s.

Edison High continued on its hot streak Monday as the Chargers

swept visiting Marina, 25-16, 25-13, 25-17.

In their previous league match, the Chargers downed Los Alamitos,

25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21. Kari Pesteolesia had 16 kills, Colleen

Burk added 12 and Karla Readshaw finished with 38 assists against the

Griffins.

The two league wins puts Edison at 12-1 overall and gave them a

share of the league lead with Esperanza.

The two teams met Wednesday at Edison in a crucial match.

In another match played Monday, Esperanza (14-1, 6-1) defeated host Huntington Beach, 25-21, 25-11, 25-11.

Huntington Beach previously was a 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 winner over Fountain Valley.

In boys’ cross country, Huntington Beach finished 19th overall in

the team sweepstakes at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College

Invitational in Walnut.

The final 14 races were canceled due to fires that raged in nearby

Riverside County.

In girls’ tennis, the team of Kathy Nguyen and Kelly Wong swept at

No. 1 doubles as host Huntington Beach held off Esperanza, 10-8. The

win which kept the Oilers in second-place, one game behind Los

Alamitos.

Edison downed Marina, 15-3.

In girls’ golf, Jennifer Osborn’s score of 39 led Marina in a

214-250 Sunset victory over Fountain Valley at Meadowlark Golf

Course.

The win was the 14th without a loss this season for the Vikings.

In Golden West League action, Jennifer Gilderman’s 43 paced Ocean

View in a 248-258 win over Sage Hill at Meadowlark Golf Course.
